She’s got legs, she knows how to… insert them… into a well designed print newsletter template, and after reading today’s tutorial, so will you. Today’s Photoshop tutorial will teach you all of the effects needed to recreate the sexy, dark, and inviting High Class Heels newsletter template. Perhaps I could convince the leg model that posed for this photo to take a walk around on those stems and find that Leprechaun that stole my vodka last St. Patrick’s day. Did I mention that it was raspberry ice tea flavored?

Step 1: Set up Your Document and Base Pallet

First, let’s start by creating a new document with the size of 17 x 11 inches in CMYK, which will be the print dimensions of our largest size newsletter. Then, create a new layer and fill it with a black transparency gradient. Press (G) for the Gradient, and select the transparency option shown below:

Here is how it looks when applied:

Step 2: Apply a Wave Filter

Now, let’s apply a filter to the gradient we created just now. Go to Filter > Distort > Wave,

Then, select “square” for the type of waves, enter 10 for the number of generators, wavelength 10% for min and 120% for max, amplitude 10% for min and 100% for max, and scale 50% for horizontal and 100% for vertical.

This is what you get now:

Step 3: Fill the Background with a Gorgeous Brunette Sheen

Now, let’s give a brilliant brunette color to the background. Go to your background layer underneath the gradient layer, then press (G) for the Gradient Tool, and enter the below color settings:

Next, drag the gradient across the canvas from left to right to achieve the gradient below:

Third, go to your layer with effects, and chose Linear Light for the Blending Mode

This is how your image looks now:

Step 4: Add a Brighter Shine to Your Brunette Color

Lets improve the color we’ve added in the previous step. Duplicate a copy of your background layer; go to your background layer, right click on it and select Duplicate Layer, and place it on top of your effects layer, and choose Soft Light for the Blending Mode.

The results:

Step 5: Place and Enhance Your Image

We’ve got our effects in place, and it’s time to add image to color. Grab the most inviting photo you can find of a woman in high heeled shoes to insert into your canvas. You can see the photo that we selected below:

Next, let’s create a drop shadow on the image; right click on your photo layer, select Blending Options, and go to Drop Shadow, enter 40pixel for the distance, 26% for the spread, and 57pixels for the size.

This is how your image looks now:

Step 6: Add Your Text and Format it with Special Effects

Now, we need to include a text message in our high heeled print newsletter template. We’ve used Century Gothic Font here.

However, plain text isn’t very appealing on a newsletter, so let’s create some effects on the text. Right click on your text layer, select Blending Options, go to Outer Glow, select Linear Dodge (Add) for the Blend more, capacity 100%, colour #F17E43, under elements, use Softer technique, spread 14%, size 18pixel, under Quality, use the contour election I used, and enter 1% for the range.

This is how it looks:

Step 7: Make the Text Look Like it is Reflected off Glass

Finally, let’s add some motion blur effect to the text (it makes the font look a little like there is a glass plate in front of it). Right click on your text layer, select Duplicate Layer, and then go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur, enter 45 for the angle and 280pixels for the distance.

Then change the layer capacity to 60%. This is how your text looks now:

So, we are done with tutorial, however, you can add in your text and any other images to it you might like.

Here’s how we completed ours in our final design:
